Once absorbed by the insect, dinotefuran rapidly interferes with normal nerve signal transmission, leading to over-excitation of the nervous system.

As nerve activity becomes uncontrolled, the insect loses coordination, stops feeding, and ultimately becomes paralyzed and dies.
